Citizenre ReNU, rent solar panels, Tesla Model S electric car

Earlier this week, I wrote posts dealing with how to calculate the breakeven point for an investment in solar panels or the purchase of a hybrid vehicle.

1.  Breakeven:  Investment in solar panels

2.  Breakeven:  Purchase of a hybrid vehicle

Coincidentally, not long after I had written these posts, some highly relevant news came out regarding solar panels and electric vehicles.  These topics will be addressed below.

Tesla Model S electric car

There has been a lot of buzz about this car, and you can see why from the various photos (such as the one above) and other info that is circulating around the internet.

The CEO of Tesla Motors, Elon Musk, outlined the economic benefits of an electric sedan versus a gasoline-only sedan.

As always, it is important to do your own research and calculate the breakeven point based on several factors, as was already discussed in this post – Breakeven:  Purchase of a hybrid vehicle

Rent solar panels

A company by the name of Citizenre ReNU is renting solar panels.  You can buy a 1, 5, or 25 year contract and pay the same flat fee for the corresponding life of the contract.  There are no installation costs or rate increases under the contract.

They even provide a solar savings calculator to see how much you could potentially save based on your state, local electricity provider, and average monthly electric bill.  It even shows the estimated impact you’ll have on the environment:  http://www.citizenre.net/extras/calculator.htm

Solar panel rental is not available in the following ten (10) states:  Alabama, Alaska, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
