Leave nothing to fear – be simple and clear

How many times have you come across a long and complicated instruction manual?  It can make even the most patient individual say:  “Screw it!  I’m going to try doing this my way.”

Mortgage applications, tax documents, and credit card applications are riddled with fine print.  The little tricks in the fine print are like a brick wall between the customer and the company.  It can divide relationships.  The customer will be inclined to choose a simpler, more straightforward alternative.

Now think of all the companies who have been successful by simplifying the user experience.  For example, the sign up process is simple.  Using the product or service is intuitive and enjoyable.  This approach to technology has especially made things appealing to people of all ages and backgrounds.

When you keep things simple, it usually means that you are transparent.  You have nothing to hide or cleverly conceal in volumes of fine print.  Your pitch doesn’t need to be like the 647 page economic stimulus bill that the House of Representatives just passed (nor does it need to be as lengthy as this sentence).  As you continue to demonstrate honesty, you build trust.  The best relationships — whether they be in friendships, business, or marriage — are based on trust.  More people will be attracted to your opportunity, business, etc. based on the good reputation that you have established.  As an added bonus, they’ll have a simple and intuitive user experience that saves time and money.  What better invitation could you offer?

Don’t be a brick wall.  Offer a clear window into your world.

I’m going to keep this blog post simple and clear by ending it here.
